In many workplaces, there is a rule: no dating co-workers.
This rule is broken as many times as it is invoked, but the reality is that it is not a good idea for co-workers to be in any sort of personal relationship extra to the workplace.
That goes doubly for cops.
Over the weekend in St. Augustine, Florida, the maxim reared its head in the most tragic way.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Detective Daniel Leyden and his romantic partner, a fellow deputy, were found dead late Saturday at a rental home in St. Augustine, department officials said in a statement.
The couple was “arguing in a bedroom” before gunshots were heard by other deputies who were vacationing with them, Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
Leyden, who worked in the agency’s Criminal Investigations Division, was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
He is believed to be the sole shooter.
The unnamed victim — a deputy who worked in a uniform patrol unit — was also found dead from a gunshot wound, police said.
Investigators were working to determine a motive in the suspected murder-suicide, Chronister said.
“Our sheriff’s office family is still reeling from the shock of this unthinkable tragedy,” Chronister said. “My prayers for strength and comfort are with the families and loved ones of these deputies, and every member of Team HCSO affected by this painful loss.”
The report does not describe the victim as being a man or a woman, but one can assume the entire sordid affair is not flattering to either party.

I pondered whether the uniformed deputy was a man or a woman. Then I realized that the deputy was no longer alive to tell the Coroner.
Jeeze! These are the kinds of IDOTS that, whom passed psychologically, the background tests to wear the badge and gun? This scares the chit out of me!
