The news media is making it out to be a bid to stay relevant before next year’s mid-term election. It is the threat from Arizona state Attorney General Mark Brnovich who is threatening to withhold state funds slated to go to Maricopa County if they don’t cooperate with the forensic audit of the 2020 general election.
Currently, the Arizona State Senate has a report from the auditors, but the results of the audit have not been made public.
According to the letter, Brnovich is giving the county 30 days to turn over the latest subpoenaed information — including routers, which were requested by Republican state senators.
If the county “fails to resolve the violation within 30 days, the [Attorney General Office], in accordance with state law, will notify the Arizona Treasurer to withhold state revenue from Maricopa County until MCBOS complies,” according to a press release.
The ability to withhold funds when a city or county is in violation of state law comes from an Arizona law passed in 2016. Up until now, there have been only two other violations of state law found. Both times, the municipalities ultimately complied so funding was not withheld.
That being the case, undoubtedly Brnovich thinks he can effectively get Maricopa County to cooperate.
To date, they have not.
The mainstream media has been keeping the Arizona election audit so far out of the public eye, that it comes as a shock to those not following the story that it is going on. In the reporting for this development, the audit itself is called partisan and unnecessary as the party line is that questioning the reported results of the 2020 general election is baseless.
When a preliminary finding panel presented information to the Arizona State Senate committee responsible for the audit, the panel members were escorted to and from the room by an armed guard.
This was not just any election, apparently. And what methods were used to achieve the reported results – a victory for a candidate who could not fill a church hall let alone a football stadium like President Donald Trump still could – is a hot potato the Democrats just do not want to land.
