Democrat Lawmaker Slams Former Secretary Of Defense

Journalism is a rough draft of history.

That was a phrase drummed into various journalism classes back in the day.

When it comes to any splashy event that runs on news programming for days and even weeks on end, it is not uncommon to find out the original version of events is not what actually happened.

In the case of the January 6 invasion and attempted sacking of the Capitol Building, what was reported originally to have taken place has been thoroughly debunked by alternative and citizen journalists who did an independent analysis.

That does not mean that Democrats are accepting of the narrative change. However, some honest Republicans are, and one of them appears to be former acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller.

During a hearing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, he changed his tune from blaming President Donald Trump for inciting and insurrection, to a very different version of events.

One Democrat lawmaker was not amused.

In his prepared remarks for a House Committee on Oversight and Reform hearing on the riot, and in a March interview with VICE, Miller had called out Trump for directly inciting thousands of MAGA supporters to attack the Capitol after repeated claims that the 2020 election was “stolen.”

“You said the insurrection happened because of Trump’s speech,” Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) said during the hearing.

But Miller then tried to walk back his original claims, saying he’d had a change of heart after seeing information from the ongoing criminal investigation into the siege and statements from D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee. He said he now believed there was “some sort of conspiracy where there were organized assault elements that intended to assault the Capitol that day.”

“I’d like to modify my original assessment,” Miller said, to which Lynch snarked,” Why am I not surprised about that?”

“We are getting more information by the day, by the minute,” Miller said. “There was some sort of conspiracy…that intended to storm that Capitol that day… I have reassessed. [Trump was] not the unitary factor at all.”

And for this very reasoned change of heart, Rep. Lynch called Miller’s stance “ridiculous” as if changing one’s mind was only a woman’s thing.

“Absolutely not. That’s ridiculous,” Miller responded, clearly agitated.

“You’re ridiculous!” Lynch hit back. Miller seemed stunned by insult, before sarcastically thanking the lawmaker for his thoughts. He later slammed Lynch for the “partisan attack.”

Partisan or not, it was an attack. Whether the Democrats or their loyal media outlets want to believe it or not, the original narrative of January 6 is unraveling. There was no insurrection, but maybe, just maybe, if somebody followed the money, there might be evidence of a planned event meant to blacken President Trump in the eyes of his supporters.
