In the last year, the fashion of virtue signaling via mask-wearing has become all the rage. Despite all actual science that says mask-wearing is dangerous to health in that one is rebreathing bacteria that cause pneumonia, and know oxygen deprivation issues, a large percentage of the general public has used this symbol of conformity to demonstrate to the world that they are compassionate and caring about their fellow man and will do what they have to to keep everyone out there “safe” and “protected” as if they were wearing condoms on their faces.
Government authorities, along with the same “logic” lines that followed the pseudo-science appearing out of the blue that mask-wearing stifles the spread of disease, decided to mandate the face coverings. The federal government never required them, and several states did not, but county and city authorities did and do, mostly for indoor spaces. The net result of that in the business world is an eerie silence whenever one is in the grocery store when once there was quite a bit of conversation.
Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis has decided enough is enough with the local despots telling business owners how to conduct affairs within their establishments, especially gyms were wearing a mask while exercising is expressly not encouraged by those preaching health wisdom, real or imagined. One such group is the World Health Organization. DeSantis cited their guidelines while announcing the pardon of a husband and wife who own a gym on “The Ingraham Angle”.
“It’s a total overreach, Laura,” he said. “This is exactly what we ordered against last summer, many, many months ago. And so I was actually just recently briefed on this case, and we looked at it. And so I’m glad you have Mike and Jillian on, and I’m also glad to be on to be able to say that effective tomorrow morning, I’m going to sign a reprieve under my constitutional authority. So that will delay the case for 60 days against both of them. And then when our clemency board meets in the coming weeks, we’ll issue pardons not only for Mike and Jillian but for any Floridian that may have outstanding infractions for things like masks and social distancing.”
“The fact is it’s not even right to be wearing masks when you’re exercising,” DeSantis continued. “The World Health Organization advises against it. It’s not healthy for people to be doing that in the first place. So it was a bad restriction. But these things with health should be advisory. They should not be punitive. And so we are happy to use our constitutional authority. I think they’ve been treated poorly, and fortunately, they’ve got a governor that cares.”
Today the CDC announced as did President Biden that masks are no longer required for people who are fully vaccinated indoors or out. It looks like those who fell for mask mania are following DeSantis’s lead.
