On Thursday, during a hearing in Georgia addressing massive “irregularities” on ballot counting on the night of November 3, presidential lawyer, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and his team played a tape of surveillance video from the room where volunteers were counting votes after all poll watchers and most of the counting team was sent home for the night.
In that video, very clearly, some sort of vessel – box, bin, suitcase something along those – was pulled out from under a table in the middle of the room that was added to the furniture. Our of the vessels, the containers, came ballots that were then opened…without observers from either political party and just a handful of people in the room.
The video shows this very clearly. However, the people claiming to police the flow of “good” information to the public, the “fact-checkers,” dispute what the video shows and are using Georgia state elections officials to back their claims.
Gabriel Sterling, a Republican and Georgia’s voting system implementation manager, told Lead Stories during a phone call on December 3, 2020, that what can be seen on the video is normal procedure and nothing looks “bizarre or odd.”
Election workers known as “cutters” because their job was to open absentee ballot envelopes and verify ballots for eventual scanning and counting were dismissed for the night sometime after 10 p.m. on November 3, 2020, because their work for the evening had been completed, he explained. Those workers who remained were responsible for conducting the scanning portion of the process since ballots could not be left without being scanned overnight. He said:
“If you look at the videotape, the work you see is the work you would expect, which is you take the sealed suitcase looking things in, you place the ballots on the scanner in manageable batches and you scan them.”
Frances Watson, the chief investigator for the Georgia secretary of state, told Lead Stories during a phone call on December 3, 2020, that the ballots were in standard containers, and the work during the time in question had nothing to do with pulling ballots from under a table. She said:
“There wasn’t a bin that had ballots in it under that table. It was an empty bin and the ballots from it were actually out on the table when the media were still there, and then it was placed back into the box when the media were still there and placed next to the table.”
Never mind that the observers had all been sent home and whatever happened with these ballots was only known and seen because the facility has 24/7 surveillance cameras, and no one thought to turn them off.
Which begs the question, which facts from which side is the “fact-checkers” checking and then espousing? The real ones or the ones that the side claiming “NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ALONG” want them to?
It’s a legitimate question when the video says one thing and the fact-checkers say something else.
