Federal Funds On The Line As Department Of Justice Names Anarchist Cities

One of the keys to President Donald Trump’s success over the years and in his first term as president is the appeals he makes to the pocketbooks of the people with whom he is negotiating.

All of the Middle East agreements, for example, are bilateral, but what they are really all about is economics and making the various nations prosperous without resorting to war.

Back on the homefront, President Trump, and his cabinet, are in the midst of doing the same thing with the local governments of cities and states which are not putting down the anarchy, riots, and other lawlessness within their borders and jurisdictions by taking the first step needed to withhold federal funds from those areas.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday identified New York City, Portland, and Seattle as “local governments that are permitting anarchy, violence, and destruction in American cities,” a move that comes as the federal government continues to take a tough stance against localized rioting in some areas of the country…

“When state and local leaders impede their own law enforcement officers and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve to be protected, including those who are trying to peacefully assemble and protest,” Barr said in a statement. “We cannot allow federal tax dollars to be wasted when the safety of the citizenry hangs in the balance. It is my hope that the cities identified by the Department of Justice today will reverse course and become serious about performing the basic function of government and start protecting their own citizens.”

And, thus, to get these local governments to do their jobs and protect their citizens from the lawlessness, President Trump and his Attorney General are teaming up to withhold federal funding of any sort to the cities where the local officials have let the anarchists and rioters run wild.

The president is proving that the federal government doesn’t always have to use force for control. The pocketbook works just as well.
