In so many ways, the invasion of the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, was a trap. It trapped patriots who had no real business there other than to attend a rally headlined by President Donald Trump who are now sitting in jail in Washington charged with nothing of substance.
Several liberal groups have banded together to file suits in Federal Court to stop her from being on the ballot for re-election due to her support of January 6. Why let the voters decide who should represent them? It is not clear if she supported the rally, the march, or the invasion, which is commonly called an insurrection.
This week, a federal judge allowed the suit to continue through the court system.
The amendment says: “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
Given that the reality of the invasion of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, is still being investigated and exactly who was behind it and what really happened is still up in the air, this is most presumptuous. Expensive lawsuits are a favorite way to bankrupt conservative elected officials and drive them from office. Could we be seeing more of the same?
