On his first day in office, Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin signed a number of executive orders. One of them banned masking mandates in schools, allowing for parental choice in whether or not their children would wear face coverings.
Psaki noted her personal stake in the matter, having a child who attends Arlington schools, and pointed out that Youngkin’s children do not attend school in the district.
‘Hi there. Arlington county parent here (don’t believe you are @GlennYoungkin but correct me if I am wrong). Thank you to @APSVirginia for standing up for our kids, teachers, and administrators and their safety in the midst of a transmissible variant,’ she wrote on Twitter.
As it happens, the Arlington School District has mandated masks on children for longer than any government entity has requested or required them. What seems to be at issue is the new governor’s pledge to use state resources to keep school districts from imposing face coverings.
Exclusive: Governor Youngkin on Arlington school system saying it will require masks, despite Youngkin’s order stating that schools can’t do that. He threatened to use state resources to force schools to comply – but we still don’t know what that means exactly. @WTOP https://t.co/5Lijz9kbgd pic.twitter.com/SnC4dcCIar

‘If there’s one thing that hopefully everybody heard in November it’s that it is time to listen to parents. So over the course of this week I hope they will listen to parents, because we will use every resource within the governor’s authority to explore what we will do and can do in order to make sure that parents’ rights are protected,’ Youngkin said.
That’s one fight that could get ugly considering the number of studies that say masks are not effective in preventing transmission of disease, and the political left’s complete devotion to signaling their virtue by wearing them.
