When it comes to the right to life, the people opposing the murder of children in the womb are not giving up any time soon. Despite there being “settled law” on the matter – not legislated, but ruled so from the bench in 1973 – members of state legislatures are still passing abortion restrictions and bans.
“Abortion, as you will read in SB6, is a crime against humanity in which over 62 million innocent babies have been killed in our nation and we believe it’s important now at this moment to take a stand, in fact, it’s past time,” Senator Jason Rapert, the bill sponsor, told his fellow legislators today.
“With nearly 62 million little innocent baby girls and little baby boys killed through abortions in our nation since 1973, it is past time for our nation to abolish abortion,” he added.
“The difference is by language in the bill, we are now saying we immediately abolish all abortion in our state except to save the life of the mother,” he said.
Despite physicians who specialize in obstetrics claiming that no pregnancy needs to be terminated “to save the life of the mother” at this time in history, that language always is included in the bills, presumably to get them to pass.
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has not said he will sign the bill and has reservations about it.
In the meantime, though, there is still a pulse in the Right to Life movement, and calling the holocaustic killing of innocent babies whose only crime is existing thanks to the actions of two other people a crime against humanity is a good place to start.
