Unanimous Vote In One State Holds White People Financially Responsible For Slavery

What happens when idyllic, small-town American locales get infested with migrants from other parts of the country, and they enter politics?

They make a mess.

This week in Asheville, North Carolina, the lovely town in the mountains where liberals have been flocking for a number of years now, the city council has decreed – by unanimous vote – that reparation to the descendants of slaves are owed.

Over one hundred and fifty years after the practice and institution of slavery were outlawed in the United States, that’s five generations past, at least, and suddenly the people who have never known the practice first hand are in need of a handout.

Ri-i-ight.

“Hundreds of years of black blood spilled that basically fills the cup we drink from today,” said Councilman Keith Young, one of two Black council members and the measure’s chief proponent.
“It is simply not enough to remove statues. Black people in this country are dealing with issues that are systemic in nature,” Young said.

While that might be true, the legacy of slavery may or may not have anything to do with today’s social pathologies in the black community. It is far more likely that the legacies of Lyndon Baines Johnson and Margaret Sanger had a larger contribution than anything left from the Antebellum era.

As for how the reparations are going to work, in Asheville, they will not be just handing out cash. No, they are going the “empowerment” route. The resolution passed is full of language regarding equal pay, increased ownership in housing and business, as well as more affordable housing.

All the same high minded rhetoric that has failed just about everywhere it has been tried no matter the color of the recipients’ skin.

But that doesn’t seem to matter, the past. After all, it is being ripped down all over the nation.
