Rumors of gangs inside the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has been around for decades dating as far back as 1971 when a gang of deputies out of East Los Angeles calling themselves the “Little Devils” gained attention so these current claims should not surprise anyone familiar with the history of police gangs in Los Angeles.
This recent gang situation comes out of the Compton station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Compton had their own municipal police department until September 2000 when it was disbanded by the city council and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department took over law enforcement duties for the municipality.
Allegations of Deputy led gangs terrorizing Compton have been in the news quite a bit over the past year or so but now one brave Deputy, a United States Marine named Austreberto Gonzalez has seen enough and stepped forward reporting that a gang of Deputies known as the “Executioners” who are “inked” with tattoos that feature a skull, Nazi images, and an AK-47 has gone rogue.
Deputy Gonzalez initially called a special confidential tip line set up by the Sheriff’s Department so that Deputies could confidentially report wrongdoing in their ranks but the gang problem within the Sheriff’s Department is so prevalent that his complaint was immediately intercepted by the “Executioners” and he began receiving threats.
Deputy Gonzalez claims the gang has achieved so much power that it controls the entire Compton division… They decide the scheduling, distribution of informant tips, who gets assigned to the station, etc… His breaking point was when another Deputy was retaliated against receiving a beating by the Executioners for reporting a fellow Deputy to internal affairs.
Some of the other allegations Deputy Gonzales makes include setting illegal arrest quotas, out-of-policy beatings of subjects, and even killing unarmed people… One of which was recently shot five times in the back by an “inked” member of the Executioners.
The Sheriff claims to know nothing about any gangs within his department even though one former Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff are sitting in prison right now as a result of another investigation into one of the department’s prison gangs.
There are even those who advocate for the “groups” claiming such “clubs” boost morale and are formed by Deputies who go beyond what’s expected of them by staying late and showing bravery and eagerness to go after criminals… The justification reminds me of that saying, “A tyrant will always find a justification for their tyranny.”
Deputy Gonzalez has been forced to step down from his position as a Field Training Officer and left the department after being refused a partner and getting overwhelmed with threatening calls from members of the Executioners gang.
The FBI is said to be looking into the allegations although the current Sheriff says he knows nothing of any official investigation but says he will cooperate fully with any investigations should they occur…
Bad cops are a stain on the profession that is full of honorable men willing to sacrifice everything to improve and protect their communities… I hope they lock every bad cop up they find in the Sheriff’s Department if these allegations are true… History would suggest their very well could be some truth to all this too and the county has paid out tens of millions in civil suits resulting from actions by “inked” gang members…
Watch your six Deputy Gonzales… SemperFi Marine!
