On this July 4th probably more than any other in quite some time in our history I believe it is imperative that those of us who are stead fast tried and true patriots take the time to make that known… Our country is under attack from within and the assault is motivated by misguided uneducated youthful ignorance.
The assault we are currently seeing, like many in the past too really, is the result of so many growing up under the protection of the American flag. The liberty the American flag represents has been secured and maintained by so very few. It’s kind of a double-edged sword… On one side these spoiled anarchists represent the success of the best of the best who this country has sent off to distant lands to fight and die so that they can be raised in such comfort and blind to the real cost of freedom. On the other side, they are indicative of what happens to a society that is protected by the humble few who sacrifice everything so that those they love never have to sacrifice anything.
America’s warriors do not do what they do for fame or fortune, nor do they expect a great deal of recognition of any kind at all… The satisfaction of knowing that their family and loved ones will live free under what the American flag represents and that the evils of the world will stay off of America’s doorstep is enough.
Unfortunately, when people benefit from that security for too long and the true history and understanding of the sacrifice the few have made for them is no longer taught and understood, they begin to take it all for granted. As the American way of life has become so comfortable for so many, respect and appreciation for our flag and the sacrifice it represents has diminished.
The video below is a moving performance that emphasizes the history of the sacrifices made that the American flag represents. America was never believed to be some magical utopian country where all things would suddenly be perfect if only they could boot the British out of their business… Unlike the movements we have seen in recent history, including the one currently taking place in America, they knew change took time and would not just suddenly occur… That’s made very clear in the preamble of the Constitution:
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
They recognize in that preamble that the progress of the American experience would never be complete… They knew we would always have to work toward improving and building on what they created… And America has done just that… No country is perfect and all have their struggles that include success as well as failure… We the people must continue to build on this, not abolish it for a more restrictive or more liberal platform… There is no country that has done more good for the world or made more progress is such a short period of time as the United States… We are the youngest nation with the oldest Constitution… That should tell everyone something.
