The cult of COVID and its virtue-signaling runs amazingly deep in various segments of the population. One of them is teachers. Teachers, from the beginning of this entire exercise, have been just loco, crazy, about prevention and stopping the spread even to the point of defying orders from above.
Over the weekend, newly elected Virginia Governor Glenn Younkin eliminated the state’s mask mandates in schools. Given that masks are proven not to work in stopping the transmission of any disease, let alone the current scourge, there really is no reason to wear them.
That does not mean that teachers would be willing to just accept that reality and operate as if sanity was finally prevailing in relation to all of this mask and mandate madness.
This week, a teenager at West Point High School in West Point, Virginia, an area east of Richmond, recorded a math teacher threatening her students that she would not assist anyone not wearing a mask and would in fact seat them in the back of the room.
“You are allowed to make your choice about wearing masks beginning Monday. However, until that time, I am going to be reminding you to keep your masks up, and if you choose not to wear a mask next week, I will probably have you sit in the back of the room, and I will not come to your desk to help you if you are not wearing a mask. I’m doing that for my protection as well as yours. But, if you want MY help at your desk, keep a mask handy. I am just throwing that out there. You have a choice to wear a mask or not and I have a choice to get near you or not. So, that’s what is going to happen, and I just want to give you a heads up.”
The audio of this little speech was posted online with this note, which has already been removed from Twitter:
“Must listen! A student (who will remain anonymous) at the high school recorded this today. The teacher speaking is Ms. Pamela Tomczak, and she teaches math. I will be sending this to the principal and superintendent. Additionally, I am drafting an email that I am sending to all my children’ (sic) teachers and will post that here for you to feel free to copy. This is unacceptable from a teacher whose job is to educate children.”Â

This case may well end up being a litmus test of the will of the people versus the education establishment. The outcome should prove to be most interesting.

Personally I’d stay clear of anybody who I thought might be carrying even the flu so I have no problem with the teacher protecting herself. Seen my share of obnoxious anti-maskers and ant-vaxers who, brainwashed by narratives, have no consideration for anybody else. Pick your own poison but give people who disagree with you space.
Y’all ask so much of teachers, you want them to risk their lives, getting in children’s personal space to help them when they don’t have a mask? And I’m sure those who aren’t wearing a mask have parents who don’t care if they attend super spreader events. Good for this teacher, it’s great to set boundaries when it comes to your personal health.
Good for this teacher and shame on the parents in this community who are lacking understanding. This should be considered a reasonable accommodation – maybe she has cancer, maybe she has a family member at home who is high risk, maybe she is high risk herself and can’t afford to stop working right now. As a parent in this community I’m ashamed of the selfish behavior of so many parents who can’t see that wearing a mask is such a minor inconvenience to protect others.
