Attorney General William Barr certainly isn’t making any good friends in the mainstream media. The man known to some parts of the conservative blogosphere as the Honey Badger went behind enemy lines Wednesday night and had to explain to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, that not only is mail-in voting an open invitation for fraud, but that the Department of Justice is prosecuting cases of actual fraud.
“This is playing with fire,” Barr said in response. “We’re a very closely divided country here, and people have to have confidence in the legitimacy of the government, and people trying to change the rules to this methodology, which as a matter of logic is very open to fraud and coercion, is reckless and dangerous, and people are playing with fire.”
And yet, the party currently not in power, the Democrats, are pushing for universal mail-in voting as if the existence of the party depends on it. Barr talked about this on Sean Hannity’s show in August.
“I think it is grossly irresponsible to be doing what the Democratic Party is doing now,” Barr said at the time. “We’ve had very close races in recent history, the country is divided. If anything, we should be assuring the integrity of our elections so that government going forward would be legitimate and be accepted as legitimate.”
Which of course, is the crux of the matter with mail-in voting. There simply is no way to ensure that ballots are processed correctly, that the correct person is voting with the correct ballot, that they don’t get lost somewhere in the shuffle, and, of course, that the people doing the counting can be trusted not to find just enough more under the bathroom sink to get a lagging Democrat over the finish line.
As contentious as that exchange was, though, the kicker between Barr and Blitzer happened at the end of the exchange.
AG Bill Barr to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer: “The media should be fair and balanced no matter who the president is. Doesn’t give the media a license to lie the way a lot of the media is.”
Blitzer: “I can speak for us, we are fair and balanced.”
Barr, laughing: “Ok…”
Talk about delusional.
